Use of to-Be verb am, is, are, was, were.

Hope you people are fine right now. In the last blog, we have discussed the action verbs, now let's talk about Be-Verbs...

Be Verbs





Be verbs tell us about someone’s state of being.

As,
Present – am, is, are,
Past 
– was, were,

Forms of Be-Verbs:

Present form — Am, Is, Are.
Past form— Was, Were.
Past Participle form— Been.
Present Perfect— Have been, Has been.
Past Perfect— Had been.


Uses of Be-Verbs


Present Be Verbs (am/is/are) :

Am:

   Am only comes with I
 I am

Is:

a)  Is comes after the subject which is a third person singular number.

 He is, She is, Ram is, Rahim is, kolkata is, The boy is, The cat is etc.

b) Is comes after tow or more subjects each separated by or.

My brother or my sister is...
He or she is...


Are:

   Are comes with –
a)  A plural subject - we, you, they .
We are, You are, They are etc.

b) You (as you is always plural )
You are.

c) When two or more singular subjects are separated by and or commas (,)
E.g.-
His brother and he are...
Ram and shyam are...
My friends and I were...
Rahul, Tanu, Vivek, Riju are...




Past Be Verbs (was/were):


Was:

Was comes after a singular subject like Ihe, she, name of any single person or thing or animal.


E.g.—
was a student.
He was a bad boy. 
John was a doctor. 


Were:-

Were is usually used after –

a) The plural subjects. 


Uses—
We were,
You were,
They were .

b) You (you is always plural)
You were.

c) When two or more singular subjects are separated by and or commas (,).
E.g.—
His brother and he were...
Ram and shyam were...
My friends andwere...
Rahul, Tanujeet, Vivek, Raju were...



Future Be Verbs:

In the future tense, there is no certain be verb. In fact, be itself comes after shall or will.
Like-

Shall be:-

    Shall be is used after first person subject (I and we).
Like,
I shall be a medic.
We shall not be so rich.

Will be:-

    Will be is used after any singular or plural subject except I and we.
Like,
He will be a good teacher. 
Vivek will be an Engineer.
